Who Should John McCain Choose As His VEEP?

MCCAIN'S VICE PRESIDENTIAL CHOICE

I have three suggestions:

1) Pick Mike Huckabee: Mike was the second runner up. Mike is a strong Republican
who can counter the "McCain isn't Conservative enough" arguments. He was my favorite
in the early primaries (but I voted for McCain in the 2000 primaries).

2) Pick Joe Lieberman. This choice could lead a lot of Democrats to vote for McCain and
allow him to cement a Moderate alliance. The biggest benefit would be a party that could
get things done by leaving behind partisan politics and seeking compromise.

When the Republicans were criticizing McCain for collaborating with Democrats, I thought:
"What are they thinking? This is a guy who is trying to actually get something passed!"

Additionally, this Moderate alliance could become a viable third party after his term(s).

3) Pick Condi Rice. Man, you could monopolize on both the female and black votes while
having a solid Republican by your side.

I think there are some Republicans who have defected to the Democratic primaries
because of the female and black candidates there. This is evident in the polls that show
lots of Democrats won't vote for the other candidate if their first choice doesn't win.

Just some ideas ... but McCain has my vote in November, whomever he chooses.

Just voted for Mike in our primary. He was on the ballot.Know McCain won but hey.

Romney was not winning. The only reason he dropped out of the race was because Huckabee did a clean sweep of the Republican states in the south on Super Tuesday which left Mitt realizing all his money had not bought him the conservatives and the nomination. With no money Huckabee did what Romney couldn't. He rallied conservatives and the southern states. Lost by 1% in Missouri, 3% in SC (only because of Thompson). Look, say what you like, but Huck ran the most fiscally successful race of any candidate. $ per delegate he won. There is no need to hate Huckabee because he is a decent consistent principled man who cared more about the people he represented than the GOP party (which is what we need in a president). As he said, he would rather lose an election that lose the principles that drove him to politices in the first place. Mike Huckabee is a class act and McCain should be graveling at his feet BEGGING him to take the vp spot. I hope the GOP embraces him, because he is the future of the Republcan party if it is to survive!!!

the one thing that would convince me to vote McCain is a McCain-Huckabee ticket.

Romney was beating Huckabee but had the decency to get out when McCain had it sewed up and us conservatives were running around trying to settle on someone.  He would absolutely be the best choice as someone who knows the economy and has the ability to get things done.  He didn't pander to the ultra conservatives (which I am one) like Huckabee did.

Huckabee could have won the nomination for the party-he would definitely help the ticket. They'd get my vote.I'd have to think twice first if Huckabee isn't.

In all of my 55 years on this earth, I have never cared one iota about politics… that is, until Mike Huckabee entered the 2008 presidential arena. From the first time I heard Mr. Huckabee debate, I knew immediately that there was something very unique about him. The more I listened to him, the more I wanted to hear; and the more I heard, the more convinced I became that he was the real deal, a ‘what you see is what you get’ kind of man. Mike Huckabee was the only candidate who truly represented conservative values of smaller government, balanced budgets, lower taxes, individual responsibility and the sanctity of human life. He was a once in a lifetime candidate who had the heart of a servant; in fact, Mr. Huckabee was heard to say “You aren’t elected to the ruling class… you’re elected to the servant class.” And that’s just one of the many reasons I gravitated to him… clearly his desire was to actually serve this country rather than rule over it. And not once during his campaign did I see him compromise his beliefs to cater to a certain demographic; never did he change his position in an effort to win votes. In addition to feeling a tremendous sense of loss since Mike’s concession, I have been left with a feeling of disillusionment with the so-called conservative media, Fox News. During Mike’s campaign, FNC had the very rare opportunity to promote a candidate with an unshakeable foundation who also possessed unquestionable integrity; a man whose capabilities could be measured by his demonstrated ability to govern, e.g., his 2-term stellar performance as Gov. of Arkansas. Not only did FNC fail to give Mike’s campaign fair and balanced reporting, they clearly worked to sabotage it with their disparaging remarks, and worse, by choosing to ignore it. To say that I was dumfounded over FNC’s treatment of Mike Huckabee would be a gross understatement. Only until recently, however, did I start to gain an insight into why FNC failed to promote the one true conservative, Huckabee, while at the same time promoting Mitt Romney, a man who will never have the conservative vote. I say, until recently, because it was just a few weeks ago that I learned of the unholy acquisition of Clear Channel, by Bain Capital, a spin-off company of Bain and Co., the company that Mitt Romney started in 1984. Clear Channel is the company that owns over 1100 radio stations and 30 T.V. stations that hosts many conservative commentators like Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, etc. Mitt Romney may argue that he didn’t buy Clear Channel… his private equity company Bain Capital did. And of course, there is no conflict of interest because Romney doesn’t tell Bain Capital what to do as he’s no longer ‘officially’ with the company. But given the so-called conservative media’s obvious bias for Mitt the Flip, one has to question whether or not Romney used his newfound pedestal to promote his candidacy, however subtly. The Bible says that the love of money is the root of all evil… I have to wonder if some folks at FNC, i.e., Sean Hannity, didn’t feel a bit like Judas Iscariot while watching Mike Huckabee during his concession speech.  If John McCain chooses anyone other than Mike Huckabee to be his running mate and he somehow manages to win the election, I have no doubt that it will be a short matter of time before FNC, et al. are suffering from buyer’s remorse. Just like Judas did...

Hey, what happened to Romney? He was on this poll, and now he isn't. He wasn't winning. Is that why he was removed?

Most people did not like Romney. Or he would have stayed in the running.

Mike Huckabee is the only candidate who has a consistent record of actually governing a state for over 12 years. Mike's consistent executive experience will bring out millions of Christian conservative voters, most of whom will stay home and sit this election out because they signed James Dobson's Values Voters pledge to only vote for 100% pro-life, pro-family, pro-marriage amendment candidates.

Mike Huckabee is a man of action, integrity, compassion and conviction. He will motivate the country by plowing through issues and getting things accomplished. Videos on his website are proof positive that he knows how to work and make great strides for our country. I haven't seen any other 2008 candidate with a record like Governor Huckabee's. One can only feel pride in aligning themselves with such a remarkable person.

Huckabee is the only candidate that can bring the Republican party together. If McCain chooses Romney, he will risk losing the election because most Huckabee supporters will refuse to vote for McCain if Romney is on the ticket. Romney is a flip flopper. He changes his views for your vote. He doesn't really stand behind the things he claims to stand by. An example is his stance on ABORTION. http://youtube.com/watch?v=D7y1HMZNJy0 http://evercor.com/trueromney/

Hey...Romney was on this poll, and now he isn't.  What happened to him?  Why was he removed?  Why aren't the peoples voices being heard?

... Holy Huckabee fans!

Mike Huckabee proved himself to be experienced, principled, consistent, and ran a positive hard fought campaign just like McCain. McCain also was told to quit last summer that his campaign was dead. His then campaign mgr and friend left him high and dry. He refused to quit and came back to win the nomination. Huckabee fought with that same character and strength til McCain got the nomination. As soon as that happened Huckabee graciously conceded and offered to do anything he could to help McCain win. Huckabee has garnered a huge grassroots following of conservatives, youth, blacks, evangelicals and even some crosseove Democrats! That equals more votes for McCain with Huckabee on the ticket. He can "fill in the blanks" nicely for McCain. Huckabee and MCain have a genuine like and respect for each other and that shows. Huckabee is just plain likeable and such a great communicator he could be greatly utilized in a vp spot. I found it almost laughable that one of the talking heads trying to push Romney stated that Huckabee didn't have the foreign policy experience. Romney doesn't either and he doesn't have anything else to offer r. And, as a matter of fact, Obama doesn't have any foreign policy experience either... Go figure!!!

Huckabee helps balance out McCain and  brings the rest of the republican base with him

gets my vote
