Ohio State Rocks As Our Number Two

Buckeyes (Almost) Rule!

It’s January, which means it’s time for us to salute the first sports #2 of the year. Once again, it comes from the BCS Championship, and once again, it’s the Ohio State Buckeyes, #2 in the BCS for the second year in a row. Now they have a long way to go to match the Buffalo Bills of the 90s, the greatest of all football #2’s, but back-to-back BCS losses make them special – the first team to accomplish that feat. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Bucks, having lost many of their best players to the pros from last year’s near-champions. But in spite of their youth, in spite of not even being ranked in the top ten before the season, the Buckeyes showed you can’t underestimate the heart of a #2. They fought their way to the top of the heap, took on the best the Southeastern Conference had to offer in the National Championship game, jumped out to a lead, then got left in the dust. Others (Georgia and USC) may lay claim to the mythical #2 in the polls, but OSU earned it on the field, so we salute them. See you next year, boys.
