Gore & Kerry Fundraise in Nantucket

“The American experiment is in jeopardy, truly,” Gore said at a Nantucket Fundraiser for Obama hosted by investment banker Lou Susman. “John [Kerry] and I will tell you there were interesting races four years ago and eight years ago, but in many ways this is one of the most interesting races in all of American history. We have a chance to lift our country to a new way of thinking. This can be a transformative election, but make no mistake. It’s close. Closer than it should be.”

He adds, “I know the Republicans criticized Sen. Obama for gathering 200,000 people in Europe, but I was proud of that gathering because it represented a rising, and those people were saying ‘please, people of the United States, come back to your roots, come back to your values.’"

“(McCain) has promised and reaffirmed his commitment to continue the same policies we’ve had these past eight years for another four,” Gore continued. “We cannot do that. Barack Obama has lifted our spirits and led us to believe, yes, we can solve the global climate crisis, address the other issues we have to take on and has said we can come together and create a new century with bright hope.”

Despite having lost a White House bid of his own, Gore remains jovial and funny in person. He mentioned that he was "shocked at the Cosmopolitan nature of the gathering" and joked to Jerry Stiller, "You want some advice? Make Iraq the 51st state and let’s get the hell out of there!”

With 150 attendees donating between $2,300 and $4,600, it's safe to say the Susmans met their fundraising goals.
