Is it just me… or are vice presidents getting angrier? There’s something different about many of the “mad faced” vice presidents of the past. In many cases, well… that was their only face. We don’t have a ton of photos of John C. Calhoun lying around, but one constant is that he always looked mad as hell. Perhaps it was just the custom to look as stoic and borderline maniacal as possible back then. Also, light eyes didn’t photograph well. VEEPs like John Breckenridge always looked somewhat “Frankenstein” in nature with the eerie lighting not playing in their favor whatsoever. Now that there are cameras everywhere and the vice presidents are being tasked with more and more duties (notably, public speeches), it’s getting easier and easier to capture VEEPs in a true moment of rage. Certain vice presidents have been known to be somewhat ill-tempered at times… certainly John Adams was prone to outbursts, Dick Cheney had his fair share of chiding criticisms issued via the media, and Teddy Roosevelt was said to give passionate and (sometimes angry) speeches. (Remember “I walk softly but carry a big stick”…?) Anyway, as you try to vote in this week’s poll, try to imagine yourself as a young child and the vice presidents as your dad. Who would strike the most fear into your heart, giving you his signature look after you’ve disobeyed him?
Which VEEP had the best mad face?
