Vice President William King Didn’t Have Long

Posted by vicepresidents

Vice President William King was elected and he served somewhere north of one month, that all seems a bit cruel.  That is what happened to our 13th Vice President of the United States from Alabama–William King.  Elected with Franklin Pierce, he served from March 4, 1853 to April 18, 1853.  King left for Cuba and died there.  Franklin Pierce served the remainder of his term WITHOUT a Vice President.  The Constitution did not mandate a new VEEP be appointed for another 112 years.
