Argument For The McCain/Lieberman Ticket

Of the assorted GOP VP possibilities, this one slipped by us here.

Now no one has ever run for VP twice under different Presidential nominees
from different parties, so Lieberman would be the first. And it's hard to
imagine the GOP choosing a pro-choice (sort of) Democrat to be a
heartbeat away from the Presidency. Yet the following evidence is out there:

1) It was odd to see Lieberman standing next to McCain at his moment of
triumph after NH. It's not like Joe helps McCain with his weakness --
core Republican voters. But if that was odd, seeing Lieberman standing next
to him at a rally in South Carolina was positively bizarre. I mean, how
many votes could that gain him there? Seven? Compared to all the folks who
would be confused with McCain's choice of company, it seems a bad choice. Is
this a trial balloon?

2) When asked about the possibility of this ticket, McCain did not deny
it, saying only wonderful things about Lieberman's ability to reach across
the aisle and how important that will be for the next administration.

3) When asked about the possibility, Lieberman was positively giddy
about it. Now, given that there are Sultans who receive their weight in
rubies on their birthday who have less of an ego than Joe Lieberman, it's not
hard to imagine his desire to have people pay attention to him, so trust me, he
wouldn't say no. It all seems highly unlikely to happen, but somebody better deny it
soon or I'm going to start building a bomb shelter.

I wouldn't say the idea "slipped by us"... we've mentioned Lieberman before.

But if McCain wins the GOP nomination, pretty sure Lieberman will be it.
